Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 2026

Safe to Eat? is a consumer food-safety information website available at safetoeat.uk. We aim to collect as little personal information as reasonably possible.

Information you provide

You do not need to create an account or provide your name, email address or other contact details to use the food-safety checker. The checker processes the options you select to determine which existing food-safety rule applies. Those answers are not intended to identify you personally.

Website analytics

We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand how the website is used and which pages are most useful. Vercel processes technical request information to provide these analytics. This may include aggregated information about pages viewed, referrers, approximate country, and device, browser and operating-system information. Read Vercel's Web Analytics privacy information.

Hosting and technical information

Safe to Eat? is hosted by Vercel. Hosting providers may process technical request information needed to deliver, protect and operate the site, including information such as IP address, request and device information, and security logs.

Advertising

Safe to Eat? has connected the site to Google AdSense for site review and possible future advertising, but ads are not currently being displayed. Google may process technical request information when its AdSense site-connection script is loaded. Before advertising that requires consent is enabled, this Privacy Policy and the Cookie Policy will be updated and the required privacy and consent setup will be put in place. This connection does not mean AdSense has approved the site.

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies and similar technologies may be used where required to operate the website. Our Cookie Policy explains the current position.

Sharing information

Safe to Eat? does not sell users' personal information. Information may be processed by service providers needed to operate the site, including Vercel for hosting and analytics.

Retention

Information is kept only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, subject to the retention practices of the service providers used to operate the site.

Your rights

UK data-protection law may provide rights such as access, correction, deletion, restriction and objection in some circumstances. You can find out more from the Information Commissioner's Office.

Children

Safe to Eat? is a general consumer information website and does not operate user accounts or knowingly ask children to provide personal information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the site, its service providers, advertising arrangements, or legal and privacy requirements change.
