Reporting a mistake or an out-of-date page
Safe to Eat? is a rules-based checker built on published guidance, so accuracy matters more than anything else on the site. If you think a page or a checker answer is wrong, please email us with:
the address of the page, the answer you were given, and the official source you think says something different. A link to the official page is the most helpful thing you can send.

Suggesting a new guide
If there is a food or situation the site does not cover, tell us what you were trying to find out. Guides are based on published official guidance, so we may not be able to cover every topic.

What we cannot help with
We cannot give personal medical advice, diagnose an illness, or decide whether a particular item of food in your kitchen is safe. The checker gives general guidance based on the details you enter, and it is not a substitute for official advice or a health professional. See the disclaimer and methodology for how answers are produced and what they do not cover.
We also cannot act on complaints about a shop, restaurant or food producer. Those go to your local council’s food safety team, or to the relevant food authority.
Urgent concerns
Please do not send urgent medical or emergency enquiries through this website. If you have symptoms after eating or believe there is an immediate health emergency, seek appropriate medical help or official health guidance. In the UK, NHS 111 can advise on non-emergency symptoms and 999 is for emergencies. In the US, call 911 in an emergency or Poison Control on 1-800-222-1222.
